Is Leucovorin the same as folic acid?

No. While both are forms of folate, they are not the same.

Folic acid is a synthetic form of folate that must be converted by the body into its active form before it can be used.

Leucovorin (folinic acid) is already in an active, usable form and can bypass certain metabolic steps. This makes it more effective in situations where folate processing or transport is impaired—such as in some children with autism.
