Could Leucovorin Unlock New Possibilities for Brain Health?

Access to Leucovorin has never been faster or easier.

  • Licensed in 45+ states
  • Now enrolling patients for Autism and PANS/PANDAS

Leucovorin (folinic acid) is a breakthrough prescription treatment helping restore folate to the brain when normal pathways are blocked. Philadelphia Integrative Psychiatry is helping make Leucovorin treatment accessible nationwide — led by double board-certified psychiatrist Dr. David Danish.

Two Ways to Access Leucovorin Treatment

Families now have two ways to begin Leucovorin treatment with Philly Integrative. Both pathways follow the same medical protocol developed by Dr. David Danish, and both include clinical review before treatment is prescribed.

The difference is how care is delivered.

Families may begin the process without scheduling a video visit first.

Instead, parents complete a secure medical questionnaire about their child’s history and symptoms. A physician reviews the information offline and determines whether Leucovorin treatment is appropriate. If so, a prescription can be issued to your preferred pharmacy.

Families may speak directly with a clinician before beginning treatment.

In this pathway, you will schedule a 25-minute telehealth visit with Dr. Danish or another licensed provider to review your child’s history and determine whether Leucovorin or diagnostic testing may be helpful.

Why Leucovorin?

Sometimes brain-related challenges like delayed speech, tics, OCD symptoms, mood instability, or developmental regression may be linked to folate receptor autoantibodies (FRAs).

When this happens, the brain may experience a functional folate deficiency — even when blood folate levels appear normal.

Leucovorin (folinic acid) is a prescription form of folate that can bypass this blockage and restore folate availability to the brain.

Unlike over-the-counter supplements, Leucovorin is used in targeted, research-backed dosing protocols and has shown potential to:

💬 Improve speech and language development in autism

😌 Reduce OCD symptoms, anxiety, and tics in PANS/PANDAS

🧠 Support neurological function related to cerebral folate deficiency

Read what our patients are saying about Leucovorin:

Leucovorin therapy has been studied most extensively in autism, with multiple randomized controlled trials showing meaningful improvements in language and communication in some children.

Emerging clinical evidence and physician experience also suggest benefits for children with PANS/PANDAS, where immune-related inflammation can affect neurological function.

Families commonly report:

More social engagement and eye contact

New words and stronger language development

Improved focus and emotional regulation

Calmer moods and reduced tics

These aren’t miracle claims.

These outcomes reflect a growing body of scientific interest in how folate metabolism impacts brain development and neurological function.

How Our Leucovorin Treatment Process Works

Getting started with Leucovorin treatment at Philly Integrative is designed to be straightforward.

Depending on eligibility, families may begin treatment through either asynchronous care or telehealth care.

Submit an interest form

Start by completing a short eligibility form so our team can confirm treatment availability in your state.

Schedule a complimentary consult

Speak with a member of our intake team. They can walk you through what to expect and answer program-related questions.

Please note: This is not a clinical consultation with a physician and does not include medical advice or treatment recommendations.

Complete your intake questionnaire

Families complete a secure medical questionnaire covering medical history, current symptoms, and prior treatments.

Clinical review

A clinician reviews the provided intake information offline to determine whether Leucovorin treatment is appropriate.

Treatment plan issued and medication prescribed

If appropriate, a protocol-based treatment plan is created. Leucovorin is prescribed and sent to your pharmacy for fulfillment and pick up.

Optional

Additional laboratory testing such as FRAT testing may be ordered for further diagnostic insight.

Meet with Dr. Danish or another licensed clinician in a real-time video visit to review your child’s medical history, symptoms, and treatment goals. This is a personalized clinical discussion where you can ask questions and receive guidance specific to your child.

Please note: This is not a full autism evaluation or comprehensive psychiatric medication review. This visit is focused specifically on Leucovorin treatment and any related testing.

Because this step requires scheduling time with a clinician, availability may vary and can impact how quickly you’re able to begin treatment.

Personalized plan and next steps

Following your visit, your clinician will provide a personalized treatment plan with clear dosing instructions and guidance tailored to your child’s needs.

If appropriate, additional diagnostic testing—such as FRAT or MTHFR gene testing—may be recommended to provide further insight. These tests are optional and completed separately at an additional cost.

If moving forward with treatment, your prescription will be issued and sent to your pharmacy.

  • Ask questions anytime via text or email through our patient portal.

  • Follow-up visits are optional and scheduled as needed.

Optional Diagnostic Tools

Some families choose to pursue additional testing to better understand the biological factors involved in their child’s symptoms. These tests are not required to begin treatment, but may provide useful diagnostic insight.

🩸 Folate Receptor Antibody Test (FRAT)

The FRAT test checks for antibodies that block folate from reaching the brain.

In some children with autism or PANS/PANDAS, these antibodies may contribute to neurological symptoms by preventing folate from being properly transported into the brain.

If antibodies are present, Leucovorin may help bypass this blockage.

FRAT testing can be ordered through our clinic and completed at a local laboratory.
