Dr. Danish treats patients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) using a variety of stimulant medications, including Dyanavel XR (amphetamine extended-release). Having a wide range of stimulant options is incredibly helpful and important for effectively managing ADHD. Despite some overlap in core ingredients among these medications, the differences in drug delivery mechanisms can significantly impact both efficacy and tolerability for many patients. This allows for more personalized treatment plans that cater to individual needs and responses.

The effectiveness of Dyanavel XR in treating ADHD is well-supported by various studies. By addressing the neurochemical imbalances associated with ADHD, this medication is a key component of the comprehensive treatment plans developed by Dr. Danish and his team at Philadelphia Integrative Psychiatry. Their holistic approach combines medication management with therapy, lifestyle adjustments, and other supportive measures to address the multifaceted nature of ADHD.

Dosage Information

  • Dosing Options: Dyanavel XR is available in tablet forms of 5/10/15/20 mg doses, taken each morning. The tablets can be chewed or split. The liquid form comes in concentrations of 2.5 mg/mL.

  • Starting Dosage: The recommended starting dosage is either 2.5 mg or 5 mg once daily in the morning, varying by age and prior experience with stimulants.

  • Dosage Adjustments: Dosage may be increased in increments of 2.5 mg to 10 mg per day every 4 to 7 days based on clinical response.

  • Maximum Dosage: The maximum recommended dosage is 20 mg once daily.

Administration Instructions

  • Administer Dyanavel XR orally once daily in the morning, with or without food.

  • For the extended-release liquid suspension, shake the bottle well before each use and use the oral dosing dispenser provided by the pharmacist.

  • The extended-release tablets may be chewed or swallowed whole. The 5 mg tablet is functionally scored and can be divided into equal halves (2.5 mg) at the score line.

Evidence and Efficacy

A laboratory classroom study involving 108 pediatric patients aged 6 to 12 years demonstrated that Dyanavel XR significantly improved attention and behavior scores at all measured time points after dosing, with effects starting at 1 hour and lasting up to 13 hours post-dose compared to placebo.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Abuse and Dependence: Dyanavel XR has a high potential for abuse, similar to other stimulants. If this is a concern, discuss alternative solutions with your practitioner.

  • Cardiac Disease: Before starting treatment, assess for cardiac disease through a thorough history, family history of sudden death or ventricular arrhythmia, and physical examination.

  • Psychiatric Risks: At recommended doses, Dyanavel XR may rarely cause psychotic or manic symptoms even in patients without prior history.
